Bottle and Can Drive

Today’s the day to get rid of all those empties from your early summer celebrations! Bring your beverage bottles and cans to Maxwell’s parking lot on Saturday, July 13, from 10 AM to 3 PM. The Bottle and Can Retrieval Center will have a big trailer parked at the library, ready to haul them away for recycling. The proceeds will support Maxwell Memorial Library.

Can’t make it today? The Library has an account set up at the Fairmount bottle return center, so you can drop your empties off year-round and have them earmarked for Maxwell.

Maxwell’s Book Lover’s Basket Drawing

And the drawing for the winner of Maxwell’s Book Lover’s Basket will be at close of business today, with the lucky person being contacted on May 20! More details on the contents of the basket here. Book Lover’s Basket Drawing

Enter to win a basket filled with the essentials for a cozy day of reading, including a $100 Barnes & Noble gift card.

Job opening: Part-Time Library Clerk

Maxwell Memorial Library in Camillus, NY is seeking applications for a Part-Time Library Clerk.

The Library Clerk is a permanent part-time (average 10-25 hours per week) position that works a set shift each week at the library circulation desk, to be determined by schedule openings and by the director and clerk together. At least one Saturday per month will also be part of the schedule, as well as evening hours.

OCPL Digital Resources Survey

Onondaga County Public Libraries’ eContent Committee is conducting a patron survey to obtain feedback about the digital resources that OCPL offers. The survey asks you to consider which resources you’ve used, your general experiences with the resources, and your thoughts about what resources you could potentially need that OCPL does not currently offer.

This survey, along with the member survey conducted last fall, will assist the committee as it reviews resources and plans training events for the year.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Maxwell Library is excited to be a drop-off location for donations of children’s bedding to Sleep in Heavenly Peace!

This group of volunteers is dedicated to building, assembling, and delivering beds to children ages 3 to 17 in need in the greater Syracuse area. Their motto is No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town!®.

How can you help? You can donate:

  • New twin-size sheets
  • Comforters
  • Bed-in-a-bag
  • Throw blankets
  • Standard pillows
  • Pillowcases
  • Twin mattress protectors

These items must be brand new and in their store packaging. We have a donation bin inside the library—look for the little bed near the front door!

Tree of Gift Cards Fundraiser

It’s time for the Tree of Gift Cards, our holiday fundraiser! There are three small Christmas trees on top of the book sale shelves behind the circulation desk. Each tree has gift cards from local businesses associated with them. The actual gift cards are not attached, but there is a list of what prizes folks can win next to each tree. Each tree has gifts worth over $400!

Tickets are on sale November 21 through December 15. Folks can buy 1 ticket for $5 or 5 tickets for $20, cash or checks payable to Maxwell Memorial Library, for chances to win one of the three sets of gift cards. Tickets can be purchased at the front desk. This is a great way to support your Library as well as the many generous small businesses in our community! Thank you, and good luck!

Dear Supporter of Maxwell Memorial Library,

Maxwell Memorial Library’s primary mission is to provide support and critical services to the Camillus community and beyond. In following Albert Einstein’s quote above, we want more people to know where we are and what we do!

More than simply providing check out services for books, Maxwell is brimming with opportunities for the community to come together, learn, grow, and strengthen ties. Although we are housed in a beautiful former church built in 1868, Maxwell offers up-to-the-minute technology services including free internet access and computers for community use, reference resources, online books and much more. Multiple book clubs for adults, storytimes for emerging readers, specially designed teen activities, informative sessions on a variety of topics, and fun programming to spark your creative juices fill up our calendar pages every day of the year. There is always something going on at Maxwell!

While we receive funds from the town to support much of our budget, Maxwell still needs to raise additional funds so we can offer an expanding, diverse range of programming to meet the community’s changing needs, as well as enhance our physical and online collection of reading material. For 105 years, we’ve provided a warm, welcoming, and inclusive space to everyone in our community and we have so much more we want to do!

Temporary Shutdown of Online Services

OCPL, the county library system, is upgrading system services. Because of this, there will be no access to account information, the catalog, or digital content such as Libby and Hoopla over the night between October 15 and 16.

The shutdown is scheduled to start at 8 PM on Sunday, October 15.

We expect that services will be resumed by the time we open on Monday morning, October 16, but we do not have a definite time for this.

We appreciate your patience during this transition. Everything will be back as soon as possible. Thank you!

Coffee Fundraiser

Maxwell is selling Salt City Coffee again!

Choose from:

  • Syracuse Blend, their signature medium roast (whole bean or ground)
  • Dark Arts, their in-house espresso blend (whole bean only)
  • Decaf (whole bean or ground)

All varieties available in 12-ounce bags. Orders can be placed online or at the library from September 1 through 30. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the library.

We anticipate coffee will be ready for you to pick-up at the library the week of October 9, but we’ll notify you when it’s ready. Unfortunately, we are unable to ship orders.

Parking Lot Resealing & Repair

We will be closed this Saturday, August 19, so our parking lot can be repaired and resealed! 🚧 There will be no access to the book drop from Friday at 5 PM until Monday at 10 AM.

Holds that would’ve gone unclaimed on Saturday will be held until Monday. A reminder that we are fine free and no longer charge overdue fees! Books and other basic library media can also be returned at other libraries within the OCPL system. 📚

We are offering the perfect gift to honor your loved ones: With a donation of just $35, a bookplate inscribed with your honoree’s name will be placed inside a book in Maxwell Memorial Library’s collection. You may choose to select whether the bookplates are “in honor” or “in memory of” a loved one, or simply “presented by” an individual or family.

All donations to the library are tax-deductible.

Here’s how it works:

  • Choose the friend or family member you’d like to honor

    • Children’s Book
    • Young Adult Book
