Circulation of Materials Policy

The purpose of this policy is to ensure maximum access to the information and materials in the collection of Maxwell Memorial Library.

Unattended Children Policy

Serving children is an important role for the Maxwell Memorial Library. Children and their families are encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities the Library provides for reading, learning and growing. In welcoming patrons of all ages, the Library has a responsibility to provide an environment that is safe and comfortable for every patron who is appropriately using its services and facilities.

Photo Policy

Maxwell Memorial Library staff often take photos and videos at the Library and during programs or events for promotional purposes, including print materials, online use, and our social media channels. By entering the Library, you consent to being photographed and/or recorded. If you do not wish for you or your children to be recorded or photographed, please notify a staff member.

Purpose

Maxwell Memorial Library strives to provide a warm, welcoming and safe environment for all community members. As such, the Library is concerned for the safety of vulnerable adults in and around the Library.

“The primary goals of Maxwell Memorial Library Records Retention and Disposal Policy are to:

Materials Donation Policy

Maxwell Memorial Library welcomes your donations of new or gently used materials. Many of these items will be sold in the Library’s Book Sales to support Library programs and services. Select items may be added to the collection if they comply with our Collection Development Policy.

Please note: due to limited storage space, we may occasionally suspend the acceptance of book donations for a short period of time. We recommend calling in advance to verify our donation status.

Fine-Free Policy

To make the library more equitable, Maxwell Memorial Library will no longer charge late fines on most materials (there are some exceptions). Eliminating fines ensures all people have free access to library books and materials, which is our priority as a public library.

Airborne Infectious Disease Exposure Prevention Plan

In compliance with the NYS HERO Act, Maxwell has developed its Airborne Infectious Disease Exposure Prevention Plan.

Room Reservation & Use

The Maxwell Memorial Library maintains meeting room space and study rooms for use by not-for-profit community groups, associations, and agencies engaged in educational, cultural, intellectual, or civic meetings or activities of interest and/or benefit to the community.
