1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a free program that encourages parents/guardians/caregivers to read 1,000 books with their child(ren) before they start kindergarten. Experts agree that sharing books with children often is the best and simplest way to help them prepare to read and learn.
1,000 Books Sounds Like a Lot! How Will We Do This?!
If you read one book a day, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years, and 1,095 books in just three years!
You don’t even have to read 1,000 different books. Who has read Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus? 50 times? That counts as reading 50 books.
Spend 20 minutes a day reading with your child. Make it fun and exciting! There are fantastic picture books that make for great read-alouds.
