Maxwell Is Accepting Book Donations!

Maxwell Library in Camillus is once again accepting book donations!

Bring your new or gently used books to the front desk!

  • One box or bag per visit
  • We are currently saturated with DVDs, so we are asking patrons to find other places to donate them for now
  • No textbooks, reference books, or Reader’s Digest Condensed Books

Please don’t include any mildewy or moldy items. As book lovers, we understand the reluctance to destroy any book, whatever its condition, but mold and mildew spread and can destroy an entire collection. Unfortunately, they also render the paper unacceptable for recycling, so the only option is destruction of the item.

If you have questions, contact us or visit our Materials Donation Policy page.

Book Donations

Don’t Panic!

We’re not banning books, but our limited space means that we’re unable to take donations of books and similar material at the moment.

We are grateful for our patrons’ generosity and will let you know when we are able to accept donations again.

We’re Taking Book Donations Again!

We’re again able to accept donations of new or gently used books (and other library-type material)!

Many donated items get sold in the library’s book sales—our ongoing, inhouse sale or our occasional bigger events—to support library programs and services. Select items may get added to the collection if they comply with our Collection Development Policy and needs.

Please see our Materials Donation Policy for details about the types and quantities of material we can accept.

Materials Donation Policy

Maxwell Memorial Library welcomes your donations of new or gently used materials. Many of these items will be sold in the Library’s Book Sales to support Library programs and services. Select items may be added to the collection if they comply with our Collection Development Policy.

Please note: due to limited storage space, we may occasionally suspend the acceptance of book donations for a short period of time. We recommend calling in advance to verify our donation status.

Maxwell’s Curbside Service

On June 15 Maxwell reopened with Curbside Service.

To check material out, you can place holds in the OCPL catalog or you can call us and ask us to grab something from the shelf or place a hold.

Items you’ve had out since March still aren’t due til July 1.

We are also ready for returns. Any items you want to return (whether you’ve had them since March or only since we reopened) can come back. Because our current protocols call for quarantining returns for 7 days, please put all returns into our outside book drop.

Also, we still can’t accept donated material at this time.

We don’t yet know when we’ll be opening the building to patrons, so programs that have been happening online will continue online. Watch our Facebook page and our events calendar.

We apologize for any continuing inconvenience this causes.
