Upstate University Hospital’s Mobile Mammography Van

Upstate University Hospital’s Mammography Van will visit Maxwell Library on Friday, July 7. The van will be parked on Leroy Street directly across from the library’s parking lot. The screenings for breast cancer will be available between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. There may be some availability for walk-ins, but appointments are strongly recommended to ensure getting seen that day.

To schedule an appointment for a mammogram on the van, women should call 315-464-2588 or register online.

To be eligible for a mammogram on the van, women should be:

  • 40 years and older
  • Not have had a mammogram in the past 12 months
  • Not be experiencing breast problems

Insured and uninsured women are welcome. Those without insurance should register in advance.


The mammography van spans 45-feet and is equipped with a state-of-the art 3D digital mammogram system, private exam and dressing room, and a waiting room.

The mobile mammography program was started through New York State’s “Get Screened, No Excuses” Breast Cancer Initiative, and continues with the support of Upstate University Hospital. The program’s aim is to get rid of obstacles to breast cancer screening for women in New York.

Upstate University Hospital’s Mammography Van will visit Munro Park at the intersection of First Street and Leroy Street in Camillus on Wednesday, June 1. The visit is organized through Maxwell Memorial Library with the Village of Camillus, Town of Camillus Parks and Recreation, and the Camillus Senior Center, and it takes place just down the street from the library. The screenings will be available between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM for those who have scheduled an appointment.

Naloxone (Narcan) Training

Mariah Senecal-Reilly, Mental Health and Substance Use Initiatives Program Coordinator with the Onondaga County Health Department, will hold a training program on the use of Naloxone (Narcan) to reverse a potential drug overdose. The training will cover risk factors and signs and symptoms of overdose, as well as how to reverse the overdose, including a quick demonstration of what to do. The training will come with a free Narcan kit. There will also be time for questions about substance use and the local state of the opioid epidemic.

Registration is required as space is limited.

Due to COVID concerns, facial masks must be properly worn by everyone ages 2 and up when inside the library, regardless of vaccination status.

Mindful Meditation and Relaxation with Renee Goot

The class offers relative beginners, ages 18 and up, the opportunity to become acquainted with the simple and fun practice of meditation and relaxation. This Zoom event allows participants to attend with safety and privacy from their own homes.

It is recommended that participants prepare a calm, quiet space from which they can focus on the instructor through a computer, tablet, or smartphone that is set up on a nearby surface.

This month, Renee will work some gentle, mindful movements into our meditation practice.

The class is free, but space is limited.

Crossfit Kids with Coach Jess of Jess Wood Wellness LLC is a fitness class where the focus is on making fitness FUN! We strive to create a class filled with learning, games, laughter, and building confidence all while working on gross motor skills, strength, and balance. We work hard and learn the foundations for quality movement.

Parents should set up a space where the child can move freely and follow the coach’s instructions.

Chair Yoga for Adults

Join certified yoga teacher Diane Zarzecki (RYT 500 and certification in chair yoga) to enjoy the benefits of yoga right from your chair! Learn simple movements that exercise each part of the body including your breathing. Build strength and flexibility and improve balance. You will do many movements seated and others standing while using the chair as a steady support. Diane provides modifications for each exercise and is happy to accommodate all fitness levels.

You will need a chair without arms. We recommend that you prepare a space from which you can focus on the instructor through a computer, tablet, or smartphone that is set up on a nearby surface. Be sure to set your chair on a non-slippery surface such as non-slip carpeting or a yoga mat.

Work It Circuit with Fitness Coach Jessica Wood

Work out with Coach Jess of Jess Wood Wellness LLC during a fun and muscle-pumping circuit training class in the safety and privacy of your own home. We will work the whole body during this hour-long class through timed stations. If you have dumbbells or resistance bands you can have them close by. If you don’t have any equipment, that’s ok! There will be built-in rest breaks, so have your water ready. A workout mat or towel is handy to have with you as well. If you have any questions or concerns reach out to Jess at coachjess@jesswoodwellness.com before the start of class. During class the coach will give modifications for each of the movements and is happy to accommodate all fitness levels!

The mammography van spans 45-feet and is equipped with a state-of-the art 3D digital mammogram system, private exam and dressing room and a waiting room. It’s supported with funds from Health Research Inc. and the New York State Department of Health grant and is part of Gov. Cuomo’s “Get Screened, No Excuses” Breast Cancer Initiative.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women, affecting one in 8 women. It is also one of the most treatable cancers when detected early. Mammograms—x-rays of the breasts—are the most effective screening procedure for the early signs of breast cancer.
