After a lifetime in law enforcement on the local, state, and federal levels, Dennis Patrick Murphy turns to the realm of crime thriller fiction to bring his experiences and expertise to the public in a new way. The Thin Blue Line series starts with CPD Blue, based on Murphy’s work as a Camillus police officer. It continues with SPD Blue, with situations taken from his years in the Syracuse police department.

As he moved through the ranks from beat cop to detective and federal investigator, Lt. Murphy knew that he was in a position to advise young men and women who were considering a career in law enforcement. He does so as an adjunct professor at Onondaga Community College in the Department of Criminal Justice.

In this virtual gathering, Lt. Murphy will talk about both his careers. As a kickoff event to National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), this gives aspiring authors the chance to get practical advice on starting, polishing, and publishing that first work. It also provides a unique opportunity for anyone thinking about becoming a cop to learn how to start and what to expect. Finally, the general public gets a look inside one of the most challenging and rewarding careers out there and the lives of the men and women who keep the community safe.
