Holiday Food Drive for St. Joseph’s Church Food Pantry

November 1 through 30
Maxwell Library

The Food Pantry at St. Joseph’s Church in Camillus serves families in zip codes 13031, 13112, and 13164. These are our neighbors, and they need our help.

Maxwell Memorial Library in Camillus is partnering with St. Joseph’s to stock the Food Pantry shelves in preparation for winter and the holiday season. It is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain all foods needed from the Food Bank of CNY to supply the families who rely on our local pantry. You can help by donating some of the most needed foods and other items so no one has to go without.

Throughout November, Maxwell will serve as a drop-off location for non-perishable items. We will collect the supplies and bring them to St. Joseph’s. A list of suggested donations is available at the library, and can also be downloaded to your smartphone here. Here is some general information to help with your shopping and giving:

  • Please do not leave items outside the library. You must bring them inside during our regular hours.
  • Check for expiration dates. The pantry cannot distribute anything post-expiration.
  • Packages must be unopened.
  • Giant jars of peanut butter may sound like a good idea, but please donate regular size items, not super-sized.
  • We can only accept non-perishable items, so no fresh produce, dairy, meat, or anything requiring refrigeration or freezing.
  • If you choose to donate a gift card or a monetary gift, please do not put it in our collection bin. Please give it to one of the library staff so we can keep it safe for St. Joseph’s.

Please be generous. Thank you for caring and for your support of our neighbors!

Holiday Photo Shoot

Saturday, November 6
Maxwell Community Room
Registration required

We’re excited to offer our patrons an opportunity to have a keepsake photo taken by Maxwell’s own Michelle C.—a photojournalist by training—just in time for the holidays!

We have 12 sessions available for small groups of 1 to 8 people (sorry, no pets 🙁). Each session is listed as a separate event on our calendar for November 6. We’re allowing 15 minutes for each session since Michelle will need 5 minutes to get ready for the next group.

Michelle will take several shots for each group and will email you the best images (up to 3 shots). You’ll be able to use the photos however you like including printing, sharing, and holiday greetings and gifts. The photographer and Maxwell Library will not retain any usage or ownership rights to the photos. They belong to you.

The photo shoot and the finished photos are free, but registration is required as space is limited, so register for your slot as soon as possible. Only one time slot per group is allowed. Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes ahead of time, ready for your session.

Note that facial masks are required in the library for everyone over the age of 2—regardless of vaccination status—except for during the actual photo shoot.

Registration required

This month: Make more winter-themed cards, with snowflakes and white floral designs. Choice of sentiments lets you use these for holiday or all-occasion cards.

Registration begins December 1 and runs through December 31. We will call you on or after December 7 to arrange your pick up time.

Master crafter Alyson Esposito’s greeting card classes are back with a safe and socially distant twist. Register to pick up a kit to assemble two fun greeting cards, choice of sentiments included, in your own home. You will need your own adhesive, scissors, and colored pencils or thin markers. The kit will contain all the parts to the cards, a picture of the finished cards, written directions, and a link to a YouTube video where you can watch instructor Alyson Esposito assemble her cards.

Free, but registration is required as the craft is limited to 25 people.

You will need access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone in order to watch the video. Supplies are limited. There is one kit per person, and the craft is designed for our adult patrons. Thank you. If you would like additional kits, please contact Alyson—she is often able to sell them to her students at a reasonable price.

Due to social distancing requirements, please provide your phone number when registering so someone from Maxwell Library can call you to arrange a pickup time for you to fetch your kit. Once you have your kit, you can complete the craft at your own convenience in the comfort of your own home.
